How to crop

  1. Choose, drop or paste an image.
  2. Drag inside the frame to move it; drag the corners or edges to resize it. With a keyboard, focus the frame and use the arrow keys (Shift + arrows resizes).
  3. Pick an aspect ratio to lock the shape, or type exact pixel values for X, Y, width and height.
  4. Press Crop image and download the result.

Profile pictures

Circle produces a square PNG with everything outside the circle transparent — ready for avatars and team pages. Most social networks crop to a circle themselves, so for uploading there a Square 1:1 crop is enough; the circle version is for when you place the picture yourself.

Common ratios

  • 16:9 — video thumbnails, presentations, desktop wallpapers.
  • 9:16 — stories, reels and phone wallpapers.
  • 4:5 — portrait posts on Instagram (the tallest it allows).
  • 3:2 / 4:3 — the native shapes of most cameras and phones, and standard photo prints.

The crop is pixel-exact — no resampling unless you rotate — and the original file is left untouched. Rotate and flip apply before cropping.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Cropping runs with JavaScript and WebAssembly running in your browser tab. Your files are read from your device and the results are created on your device; nothing is sent to gratistools.be or anyone else, which is also why there are no queues, daily limits or watermarks. See the privacy page.
