When to use this instead of the Diff Checker
A line-based diff treats a paragraph as one long line: change one word and the whole paragraph is marked as changed, and if the text was re-wrapped every line differs. This page compares words across the whole text, so you see exactly the words that were inserted or deleted, in reading order, with the rest left as normal text.
It works well for contract redlines, essay revisions, translations checked against a source, release notes, policy documents, or checking what an editor or an AI rewrite actually changed.

- Line breaks — PDFs insert a hard line break at the end of every visual line. With Ignore line breaks & spacing on, those breaks and double spaces don't count as edits.
- Smart punctuation — word processors turn
"into“ ”,'into’and hyphens into dashes. Keep Treat curly quotes & dashes as plain on unless typography is what you're checking. - Hyphenation — words split across lines in a PDF (
docu-ment) will show as a change; that is real text in the copy, not a comparison error.
Reading the result
In the Inline view, deleted words are red and struck through, inserted words are green and underlined.
Switch to Side by side to compare paragraph by paragraph. Copy diff copies the text with changes
marked as [-removed-] and {+added+}, which survives pasting into email or chat where colours are lost.
Keyboard shortcuts
- Ctrl + Enter (⌘ + Enter on Mac) — compare now and jump to the result
- N / P — next / previous change (when you are not typing in a box)
- Tab moves between the boxes and controls; nothing traps focus
Is my data uploaded?
No. The comparison runs in your browser, so nothing you add is sent to gratistools.be. It only leaves your device if you sign in and press Save, which stores that one comparison in your account until you delete it. See the privacy page for details.
